In stitches.

Cici is one tough cookie. She's constantly falling, running into things and gathering bruises here and there. It never seems to end. So it was inevitable something like this would happen.

Last Wednesday as the girls were trying to get ready for bed, they started fighting. Z dislikes Cici getting into her clothes and that's exactly what was happening. Cici was touching Z's pajamas and really getting her riled up. I decided to ignore the situation and continue to talk to my MIL on the phone until I heard the screams of both children. I quickly ended my conversation, picked Cici up, grabbed her pj's and started to change her when I noticed she was bleeding. Apparently she hit her head on the bottom drawer of Z's dresser. (I still haven't gotten a straight story from Z as to what had happened.) Luckily Papa J was home (where was he during this commotion? Not sure.) and I showed him the cut. He opened it up and we both agreed immediately that she would need stitches. I wasn't too keen on going to the emergency room at night, but it needed to be done. That's when Papa J got excited. He looked at me with a smile and said, "This is what I've been trained to do!" Feet, face....well I guess they both start with F. But he was serious. He somehow had lidocaine to numb up the area and the perfect size sutures for the job. Cici is fully covered medically, but Papa J was not about to take a trip to the emergency room and sit there for 5 hours when he could do the job himself. For some reason, I didn't argue.

So we called up a friend to come over and help hold Cici down. We set up our operating table (aka kitchen table) and sterilized the utensils. I'll admit I was a little nervous - this is my little girl's face!-but I was also confident in my husband abilities. After numbing up the area, he stitched away giving her three stitches. She cried during the "operation," but was smiling after all was said and done. I then finished her nighttime routine and put her to bed. She awoke the next morning smiling like nothing had happened. She's one tough cookie.

Luckily the cut didn't bleed a whole lot or I would have been worried about it getting into her eyes. And I'm glad it didn't bother her because I was also worried about her rubbing her eyes and possibly infecting the cut.

Here she is all stitched up. We ended up taking out the third stitch because it didn't look like it was placed correctly, but then Papa J thinks it was. Oh well. The two stitches were of more importance than the third.

Poor little thing. :( I've never had stitches before but I'm really afraid of having to get them so way to go CiCi.

Poor little CiCi! Don't worry, I've heard of lots of podiatry students stitching up their children, apparently it happens all the time :)
